The Windsor String Academy (WSA) offers music instruction for students ages 5 to 18 who wish to study the violin or viola through a curriculum that includes private and group instruction, theory and master classes, chamber music, and performance opportunities. Instruction is based on the pedagogical philosophies of Mimi Zweig, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Ivan Galamian.

WSA students participate in 35 private lessons and 25 group lessons throughout the year. Students may enroll in 30, 45, or 60-minute private lessons, depending on the child’s age, development, and level of proficiency. Group classes are 60 minutes every week and are structured in such a way that students work towards developing ensemble and ear training skills, master class performance experiences, concert etiquette, and social interactions with their peers. Parents are required to attend the private and group lessons and participate in the daily practice. As part of the WSA curriculum, students are encouraged to perform in two solo recitals (December and April), and two group concerts (October and May). Although it is understood that all families have unique circumstances and expectations of music study, students may choose to prepare for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations and participate in the Kiwanis Music Festival as a part of their development.
Students are also encouraged to take lessons throughout the summer months (July and August) in order to maintain their technical/musical proficiency. Lessons are scheduled to accommodate family summer vacations and prior engagements.

In the early stages of music study, students establish the technical/musical foundation on which all future artistry develops. In addition, students become engaged in their learning, set healthy goals, acquire an increased sense of self-efficacy, and develop lasting friendships with peers who share similar interests. In essence, a priority of the WSA is to nurture the overall well-being of every student.
